Abu Dhabi Media officially launches “Radio 1” and “Radio 2”

Both stations include six diverse main programs catering to different audience segments

United Arab Emirates, April 3rd, 2017: Abu Dhabi Media has announced the official launch of “Radio 1” and Radio 2” stations, part of the Abu Dhabi Radio Network, bringing the total number of stations under its umbrella to eight. The new launch, which raises ADM’s number of brands to 27, underscores the corporation’s plans to expand its English-language radio stations.

The official launch for both radio stations follows Abu Dhabi Radio Network’s comprehensive development of content for both stations, to ensure that they broadcast exceptional content that appeals directly to the interests of listeners. This approach is aligned with Abu Dhabi Media’s commitment to offering targeted and diverse media content that resonates with the organization’s wide audience base.

Radio 1 launched on 100.5 FM in Abu Dhabi and on 104.41 FM in Dubai. While Radio 2 started airing on 106FM in Abu Dhabi and on 99.3 FM in Dubai.

Abu Dhabi Media revealed that Radio 1 has been transformed to specialize in delivering music content that targets 18-30 year olds; while Radio 2 will broadcast content catering to 30-45 year olds, who are interested in music and hits from the 1980s and 1990s.

Paradigm Shift

H.E. Mohamed Ebraheem Al Mahmood, Chairman and Managing Director at Abu Dhabi Media said: “The official launch of Radio 1 and Radio 2 under Abu Dhabi Media today underscores our strategic efforts to create tangible change in media content at Abu Dhabi Media, and diversify the media brands under its umbrella.”

Al Mahmood added: “The addition of Radio 1 and Radio 2 reaffirms our continuous pursuit to enhance Abu Dhabi Media as a comprehensive and diverse media platform. It also highlights our ongoing efforts to further advance the media sector in the UAE and the region by supporting all traditional and modern media.”

New Phase

H.E Dr. Ali bin Tamim, Director General, Abu Dhabi Media said: "Since its establishment, Abu Dhabi Media has worked tirelessly to build a broad audience base through our 27 diverse brands and distinguish a strong media presence not only in the UAE but also across the Middle East.’’ 

bin Tamim added: ‘’Radio 1 and Radio 2 represent a new phase in ADM’s journey which is aimed at reaching a more diverse radio audience with a new cultural perspective that imitates the lifestyle of listeners, and seeks to provide content that is compatible with their interests taking into account age range, and varied cultural backgrounds.”

Content diversification

Abdul Rahman Awadh Al Harthi, Executive Director of the Abu Dhabi Radio Network, said: “Launching Radio 1 and Radio 2 is an indication of our continuous pursuit of a larger base of listeners, by delivering the best radio content and achieving a diversity that suits all targeted audience segments in our society, by contributing to providing the broadcasting sector with a unique media experience.”

Al Harthi stressed that both radio stations are characterized by the quality of their targeted, yet fun programs, which are based around interactive and entertaining content. Direct communication with listeners will be achieved through live phone calls, social media, concert coverage and music festivals.

6 main programs

Each station offers six main programs airing around the clock. The programs aim to entertain and engage listeners through various tailored segments, which appeal directly to their interests.

Every morning, Radio 1 will air the “Breakfast Show” from 6-10am, hosted by Nemi and Mark, who will connect with the listeners and hear their stories, in addition to offering an array of celebrity networking opportunities and valuable prizes that can be won by listeners.

The station also airs the “Fresh and First” program, Sunday to Thursday 10am-3pm, hosted by Chiara. This program will enable listeners to tune in to hear their favorite hits and discussions on the latest lifestyle topics and trends.

During the evening, Radio 1 airs its “Drive” program from 3-7 pm. Hosts Danny and Jim with keep listeners entertained on their drive home with rich and fun content, including the latest international tunes.

Meanwhile, Radio 2 airs its “Morning Show” with Richard Allen and Laura Naylor from 6-10am. This show is characterized by its comical and entertaining style through fun news and the humorous way the hosts present the program.

The second show on Radio 2 is “The Breeze” with Sonya Mac, which airs 10am-3pm and includes a variety of subjects about the latest news and events in the United Arab Emirates, in addition to light and relaxing tunes.

Radio 2’s daily programming ends with “Drive Time”, presented by Jason King from 3-7pm, accompanying listeners on their way back home. During the program, Jason chats with friends and listeners across different communication platforms.

Wide coverage

Abu Dhabi Radio Network covers all emirates across the UAE, in addition to Qatar and Bahrain, in its ongoing quest to be the radio network with the largest geographic reach.
Abu Dhabi Radio Network includes Quran Kareem Radio, Emarat FM, Abu Dhabi FM, Star FM, Abu Dhabi Classic FM and Radio Mirchi, in addition to the newly launched Radio 1 and Radio 2.
